Veterans Day

Make Veterans Day a special one by celebrating the "Great War" which ended on June 28, 1919 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles at the palace in France. The treaty made it official but fighting had ceased between Germany and the Allied nations months earlier. The armistice went into effect on November 11, 1918, which was the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.

November 11 has the distinction as being the end of "the war to end all wars." The day is set aside as a national holiday to honor those who served their country with celebrations, parades, and the display of the United States flag on all government buildings on that day.

Throughout cities in the US, scheduled events will be taking place on November 11 such as the Freedom Tree Lighting ceremony at the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum in Monroe in commemoration of veterans who've served their country. The tree will remain lit through the second of January. On November 9, Chennault Aviation & Military Museum along with Northeast Louisiana Veterans groups will also host the Veterans Day Parade with marching bands and floats.

In New Iberia, the Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony will take place from 6pm to 8pm at the Bouligny Plaza with a 21 gun salute, flag raising, proclamations, and prayer service.

In Walker, the Livingston Parish Veterans Association will be celebrating on Saturday, November 9, with a ceremony at Walker High School with Grand Marshall and keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Russell L. Honore at 10am followed by a parade at 1pm.

Get in the spirit of the day and don your ribbon or red poppy in honor of patriotic soldiers who fought for our freedom so long ago and continue to do so.

Let Bent's RV handle all of your service needs so you can make your way to local cities and parishes to partake in the celebrations to honor those who have served our country fearlessly.
