    Memorial Day Cookout Ideas

Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer and the first day of the camping season for many! It’s also becoming one of the biggest cookout holidays next to the 4th of July.  So what are you going to do to spice up your cookout routine this year? We’ve got some great suggestions on recipes, decorations, and of course activities for the kids...okay, and adults too.

    Recipes

For many people this will be the first time you fire up the grill for the season, but if you are tired of the same old burgers and hot dogs, here are a few different ideas.

Grilled Hawaiian Barbeque Chicken- a delicious alternative to hamburgers on the grill http://therecipecritic.com/2016/08/grilled-hawaiian-barbecue-chicken-foil/

Need a great appetizer? Check out this recipe for a creamy Beer Cheese Dip. http://cookinglifetothefullest.com/campfire-beer-cheese-dip/

Deserts are always a hit at cookouts. Here’s one you won’t have to use the oven for. Red, White, and Blue Flag dessert. http://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2015/05/easy-flag-fruit-dessert.html

And for the adults, much needed refreshing drinks: Red, White, and Blue wine slushy. https://www.thrillist.com/recipe/nation/red-white-and-blue-wine-slushy-recipe

    Decorations

Once the food is figured out, the rest is a breeze. Decorating for your Memorial Day cookout is the fun part. Here are some cute ideas to dress up your campsite in red, white, and blue.

Fun and functional, these patriotic tin cans are a great project for the kids and very useful to house your utensils, flowers, or whatever else you want to add to them. Punch a hole in the bottom, tie some string through them, add some paper streamers and you’ve got a cute wind sock to hang around your campsite. https://the-wilson-world.blogspot.com/2011/06/4th-of-july-tin-can-windsocks.html

Make these cute centerpieces with 4 simple items. Mason Jars or glass vases, water, red, white and blue food coloring, and your favorite flowers picked fresh from your campsite. Activities

Other than sitting around and soaking up the sun, there are plenty of other memorial day cookout activities you can provide to your guests.

A great craft for the kids is to create these cute flag handprints. Use non-toxic paint to keep it safe. http://b-inspiredmama.com/kids-craft-patriotic-hand-print/

A fun craft for the ladies while the men cook :) http://www.annsentitledlife.com/holidays/easy-diy-flag-wreath/

And of course, if you are camping anywhere near some hiking trails get out and enjoy the outdoors!!

What are some of your Memorial Day cookout traditions?
